Although they can be removed, the process is not a simple one, and the major disadvantage is that modifications can be difficult when different security measures may be needed.

Barriers, when installed, may or may not be used regularly. The frequency of the use will depend on the environment and the purpose for the installation. It is not uncommon for systems to sit idle for consecutive months. Regular testing is crucial for several reasons.
